FAU marks decade of the Journal of Big Data -

Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) College of Engineering and Computer Science is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Journal of Big Data, an open-access publication co-founded in 2014 by FAU faculty researchers and Editors-in-Chief Dr. Borko Furht and Dr. Taghi M. Khoshgoftaar.

Over the past decade, the journal has become one of the leading scholarly platforms dedicated to big data research. According to Google Scholar metrics, it is ranked first globally among peer journals and conferences in the field, with an h5-index of 79 and an h5-median of 191. It has attracted contributions from Nobel laureates, Turing Award recipients, and other leading figures in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Recent highlights include a two-part special issue in 2024 titled “Computationally Intensive Problems in General Math and Engineering,” across genomics, aerospace, earthquake engineering, geophysics, and nature-based construction. The issue featured lead articles from three Nobel Prize winners and emphasized advanced methodologies such as AI-based algorithms, Tensor Calculus, and Partial Differential Equations.

Since its launch, the journal has published hundreds of research articles by academics, industry scientists, and innovators worldwide. Its growth reflects FAU’s broader role in advancing interdisciplinary research, particularly through the contributions of Furht and Khoshgoftaar, who have shaped both the journal and FAU’s profile in data science and AI.
