The European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) has announced the appointment of Professor Felix Beuschlein as the incoming Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious European Journal of Endocrinology (EJE). Professor Beuschlein is set to take the helm in May 2024, succeeding the current Editor-in-Chief, Professor Wiebke Arlt, who has led the journal since January 2019.
Currently serving as Professor of Internal Medicine/Endocrinology and Director of the Clinic for Endocrinology, Diabetology, and Clinical Nutrition at the University Hospital Zurich in Switzerland, Professor Beuschlein brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. Professor Beuschlein's postdoctoral studies took him to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Following a professorship for Endocrine Research at the University of Munich in 2017, he was recently elected to a chair position at the University of Zurich.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to endocrine research, Professor Beuschlein was awarded the prestigious 'Transatlantic Alliance Award' by ESE and the Endocrine Society in November 2023. This accolade acknowledges his significant advancements in endocrine research on both sides of the Atlantic—in Europe and the United States.
Outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Professor Wiebke Arlt, has been instrumental in elevating the European Journal of Endocrinology during her tenure. Under her leadership, the journal achieved its highest-ever Impact Factor of 6.664 (June 2021) and secured the 20th position out of 145 in the JCR list of Endocrinology and Metabolism research journals. Professor Arlt has also prioritized gender parity within the Editorial Board and introduced the 'EJE Rising Stars' initiative in 2022, fostering the development of future editorial board members.
