The EU-funded ACTIVE (Enabling the knowledge powered enterprise) and MUSING (Multi-industry, semantic-based next generation business intelligence) projects are organising the first international workshop on Ontology-supported Business Intelligence (OBI2008). The workshop, scheduled for October 26 - 27 in Karlsruhe, Germany, is co-located with the 7th International Semantic Web Conference, (ISWC2008).
OBI2008 aims to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners from both academic and commercial backgrounds in this emerging application area for semantic technology. Also, it will serve as a facilitator for bringing business intelligence and data mining research closer to the semantic web community.
As semantic technology is becoming more mainstream, large companies are beginning to adopt semantic web standards and approaches. Business intelligence is a key area where semantic technology can help solve real business problems. Applications include eDiscovery; customer relationship management; enterprise performance management; and financial risk management.
