FIZ Karlsruhe to present zbMATH database at International Congress of Mathematicians in Seoul -

FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure will be present at the International Congress of Mathematicians, the most important quadrennial event in mathematics held in Seoul from August 13-21. With the prestigious zbMATH database the essential information infrastructure in mathematics will be presented at FIZ Karlsruhe's booth, together with the Open Access digital libraries ELibM and EuDML.

zbMATH claims to be the world's most comprehensive reference database in mathematics (dating back to 1868)- Its new interface connects traditional review and bibliographic information with modern databases of mathematicians, references, and mathematical software. New features presented in Seoul include the community interface that enables users to enrich their own author profile or those of their colleagues, and the formula search combined with other facets.

At the opening ceremony of the ICM, the Fields Medal, officially known as the International Medal for Outstanding Discoveries in Mathematics, has been awarded to 4 mathematicians. Often described as the Nobel Prize of Mathematics, it is regarded as the most prestigious award in the field of mathematics. The scientific achievements of the medalists can be explored through their profiles and reviews of their work at zbMATH.

Prof. Gert-Martin Greuel, editor in chief of zbMATH will represent FIZ Karlsruhe and zbMATH in the World Digital Mathematics Panel. He and Dr. Olaf Teschke, Head of the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science at FIZ Karlsruhe, will also take part in an IMU (International Mathematical Union) meeting of prominent mathematicians, representatives of information services, and developers to form an initiative for a Global Digital Mathematics Library.

For many years the IMU has been supporting mathematics and advanced mathematical education in the developing world. On August 12, the MENAO (Mathematics in Emerging Nations: Achievements and Opportunities) Symposium organised by the IMU will also be hosted in Seoul. FIZ Karlsruhe and the European Mathematical Society will support the developing countries by offering free access to zbMATH and the book donation program.
