Food for thought with SSP and The Scholarly Kitchen at Frankfurter Buchmesse -

The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) and The Scholarly Kitchen (TSK) Chefs have extended an invitation for a complimentary breakfast with a side of what’s trending in scholarly and academic publishing at the Academic and Business Information Stage in Hall 4.2 at the Frankfurt Book Fair. In collaboration with Frankfurter Buchmesse, SSP and TSK will once again deliver two insightful sessions exploring the latest industry developments as well as a look at the current state of OA monograph publishing.

Enjoy breakfast while taking in the morning’s first session where TSK Chefs will explore what’s hot in scholarly communications and separate the hype from reality regarding forthcoming industry developments. Speakers include TSK Executive Editor David Crotty (Editorial Director, Journals Policy for Oxford University Press), Associate Editor Angela Cochran (Managing Director and Publisher at the American Society of Civil Engineers; and President of the Society for Scholarly Publishing), Todd Carpenter (Executive Director of the National Information Standards Organization), Robert Harington (Associate Executive Director, Publishing at the American Mathematical Society), Phill Jones (Owner and Principal Consultant, Double L Digital), Roger Schonfeld (Director of Ithaka S+R’s Library and Scholarly Communication Program), and 2019 SSP Fellow and MSLIS Student, Monica Hoh (School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). Founded in 2008, The Scholarly Kitchen is read by thousands of publishers, editors, librarians, researchers, and publishing service providers in more than 200 countries each day. Interested parties may follow TSK online at scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org.

Building on the first session’s food for thought, the morning caps off with a panel presentation on issues and trends in OA monographs, including a university press’s efforts to balance commercial concerns with the mission of the press, the role of eBook aggregators in OA monograph publishing and promotion, and recommendations for best practices surrounding metadata and usage tracking. Moderated by Adrian Stanley (Managing Director, Publishers at Digital Science and Past President of SSP), panelists include Andrew Joseph (Digital Publisher, Wits University Press), Kelley Squazzo (Director of Publisher Relations and Content Development, Project MUSE), Sara Grimme (Director of Strategic Accounts, Digital Science), and Brian O’Leary (Executive Director, Book Industry Study Group).

The book fair is the most important international marketplace for content, as well as a trendsetter for society and a major cultural festival.

This event is free to all Fair attendees on October 16, 2019, from 8:45 to 11:00 am and includes a complimentary breakfast.
