Frankfurt Book Fair 2011 begins -

The 63rd annual Frankfurt Book Fair kicked off on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. According to fair director Jurgen Boos, more than 7500 exhibitors from 110 countries are expected this year.

One key event of the first day was a workshop on how publishers can get the best out of social media. As the session brief indicated, 'there is no way around social media any more.' The workshop featured key players from the world of social media, along with leading publisher experts who provided attendees with tools to successfully integrate social media into publishers' overall marketing and publicity initiatives.

Another very interesting presentation was 'Semantic Web: A Publishers Survival Guide'. This session examined what the semantic web means and addressed the key question associated with the practicalities of implementing a semantic web strategy.
