Frankfurt Book Fair seminars focus on the role of an editor in the digital world and publishing market in China -

The Frankfurt Book Fair hosted a seminar entitled 'Editors in a Brave New World' on Friday, the third day of the Frankfurt Book Fair. The session explored how the role of an editor must evolve in the fast changing digital world. Three different speakers from international publishing organisations provided their views on the challenges. There was a very lively discussion among participants.

Another Frankfurt Book Fair hosted event, 'Business Breakfast China', offered solid advice about entering the publishing market in China. The event provided an overview of the Chinese publishing industry of 581 state-owned and more than 10,000 privately owned publishing houses. The speakers offered first hand experiences and advice on opportunities for trade in general, educational and academic publishing, including insights into 'what sells in China' and important industry trends.

Also, a symposium was offered at Universitatsbibliotek Frankfurt am Main on the 'Economy and Acceptance of Open Access Strategies.' Among the topics discussed were: results of the Study on Open Access (SOAP); general cost analysis for scholarly communication in Germany; acceptance of OA models by German researchers; and insights and experience with green open access (the PEER project).
