The Frankfurt Book Fair will host events on open access, electronic publishing and the CERN Project.
The 'Economy and Acceptance of Open Access Strategies' symposium will present and discuss the results of the Study on Open Access Publishing (SOAP); general cost analysis for scholarly communication in Germany (DFG, University of Victoria, Australia); acceptance of OA Models by German Researchers: results of an online survey (University Library Frankfurt); and the PEER Project: Green Open Access: experience, evidence and insights.
Scheduled for October 14 at the exhibition site, 4.0, Europa 2, Room, the event is organised by Frankfurt Book Fair, Ausstellungs- und Messe-GmbH, des Börsenvereins and des Deutschen Buchhandels. The event is co-organised by Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main.
The nominees for the AKEP Award 2011 will also be announced during the fair. The Publishers' Committee of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association awards the best publishing performance in the field of electronic and digital publishing. The prize aims at showing outstanding examples of innovative developments of national and international publishers in the field of electronic publishing and wishes to call publish. The nominees will be announced during an event on October 12 at the Exhibition site 4.2 B408, Sparks Stage 4.2.
The “0.000 000 000 001s – What happened a picosecond after the Big Bang?” event will be held on October 13 at the Exhibition site, 4.2 B408, Sparks Stage 4.2. It will discuss the Swiss Large Hadron Collider project, with Michael Hauschild, physicist with CERN, photographer Peter Ginter, author Franzobel and publisher Lois Lammerhuber discussing the World Machine. The session includes a book discussion and book signing.
