Frederick Community College adopts EBSCO FOLIO and EBSCO Discovery Service to enhance library experience -

Frederick Community College (FCC) has upgraded its library systems by selecting the FOLIO Library Services Platform (LSP) and EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), enhancing both the front and back-end library experience for its students and faculty. The transition, which took place in August, was expertly managed by the EBSCO FOLIO Implementation teams, ensuring a seamless and efficient launch.

Serving over 15,000 credit and non-credit students, FCC has long been recognized for its commitment to providing affordable, high-quality education to the Frederick community. By adopting FOLIO’s open-source platform, the college can tailor its library services to its specific needs. The modular design of FOLIO allows FCC to implement only the features it requires, avoiding unnecessary expenses tied to pre-packaged solutions.

EBSCO supports a growing network of more than 200 libraries worldwide using the FOLIO platform. FOLIO’s open architecture allows it to continuously evolve, meeting the needs of libraries across various institutions and ensuring seamless integration with third-party applications. At FCC, this modern infrastructure will support both current and future library initiatives, making it easier for the institution to adopt and integrate new technologies over time.

As an active user of GOBI Library Solutions® for book selection and acquisitions, FCC will continue leveraging GOBI’s services under the new system. Additionally, by adopting BiblioGraph and EDS, FCC aims to significantly improve the experience for library users. EBSCO Discovery Service™ will enhance access to scholarly content, while BiblioGraph’s integration will make the college’s library catalog more discoverable through major search engines.

This new approach improves resource management and enhances students' discovery processes, allowing them to access a wealth of scholarly materials more easily. By embracing these technologies, FCC continues its commitment to supporting academic excellence and providing an enriched educational experience for its community.
