Frontiers announces partnership with the Odessa Centre for open-access publishing -

In a significant stride towards advancing open-access publishing, Frontiers has announced its partnership with the Odessa Centre, a move poised to reshape the landscape of scholarly communication. Under this pioneering agreement, Frontiers will be the publisher of the esteemed journal, "Pastoralism: Research, Policy and Practice," marking a historic milestone as the first collaboration in the field for Frontiers.

"Pastoralism: Research, Policy and Practice" stands as a beacon of knowledge dissemination, offering a platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore extensive livestock production systems worldwide. The journal spans interdisciplinary perspectives, encompassing the biophysical, social, and economic sciences to present a comprehensive understanding of pastoralism.

Pastoralists, operating under diverse land tenure systems, rely on livestock and expansive rangelands for their sustenance, contributing to global agricultural diversity. The journal's coverage includes a myriad of livestock species such as sheep, goats, cattle, camels, horses, alpacas, llamas, reindeer, and yaks, reflecting the rich tapestry of pastoral life.

A notable aspect of this partnership is the support received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which will fund publication charges for authors from sub-Saharan Africa for three years. With over half of the world's pastoralists residing in Africa, this initiative underscores a commitment to equitable access to scholarly resources, fostering inclusivity in academic discourse.

The integration of "Pastoralism: Research, Policy and Practice" into Frontiers' esteemed publishing portfolio signifies a mutual dedication to global knowledge dissemination. Frontiers, known for fostering international collaboration and knowledge sharing, is proud to embrace this partnership, recognizing its role in advancing scientific progress and promoting accessibility to quality research.

The transition of the journal to Frontiers will commence in February 2024, signaling a new chapter in the dissemination of pastoral research. Authors affiliated with Frontiers' partner institutions may benefit from financial support in article publishing charges, further enhancing accessibility and inclusivity in scholarly publishing.

As the world eagerly anticipates the upcoming developments, stakeholders across academia and beyond await the transformative impact of this groundbreaking partnership between Frontiers and the Odessa Centre, poised to elevate the discourse on pastoralism and shape the future of scholarly communication.
