Frontiers Forum Live 2023: accelerating and mobilizing open science for global challenges -

The 8th edition of Frontiers Forum Live, a renowned gathering of top researchers, innovators, and influencers, took place from 27-29 April in Montreux, Switzerland. This year's event, held as a hybrid conference with both in-person and virtual participants, focused on accelerating the global transition to open science and mobilizing solutions for critical challenges, with the urgent need to reach net-zero carbon to prevent climate disaster taking center stage.

The Frontiers Forum serves as a platform for researchers, policymakers, and experts from around the world to discuss science-led solutions for healthy lives on a healthy planet. The event highlighted the vital role of open science in addressing the climate crisis and other pressing global issues. It emphasized the importance of making scientific knowledge openly available to researchers and innovators worldwide to implement timely solutions and avert catastrophe.

Keynote talks from prominent figures such as Dr. Kamila Markram, co-founder, and CEO of Frontiers, conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, former US Vice President Al Gore, and planetary boundary pioneer Prof. Johan Rockström reinforced the central role of science in restoring planetary health. Additionally, historian and best-selling author Prof. Yuval Noah Harari addressed the potential disruptive impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on human civilization.

The inaugural Frontiers Planet Prize Awards Ceremony recognized twenty exceptional scientists for their research aimed at safeguarding our planet's boundaries. The ceremony also announced four International Champions who will receive a total prize of 3 million Swiss francs to support their ongoing research in stabilizing Earth's ecosystem.

Frontiers Forum Live garnered significant international media attention, with coverage in over 800 outlets across 43 countries, including renowned publications like The Independent, Time magazine, and The Times.

The three-day event facilitated engaging dialogues and discussions among participants, fostering multidisciplinary collaborations and partnerships crucial for catalyzing transformative change and building a brighter future.

The talks covered various topics, including the acceleration of science-led solutions, genetic and cellular influences on aging, the long-term presence of SARS-CoV-2 in human DNA, ecological engineering, and the challenges of achieving net-zero emissions.
