Frontiers joins OA Switchboard to simplify open access metadata exchange -

Frontiers has announced its integration with OA Switchboard, a global initiative that facilitates the exchange of open access publication data among publishers, institutions, and funders. The integration enables automated metadata sharing and reduces administrative processes associated with open access workflows.

By connecting institutional and funder systems through OA Switchboard infrastructure, Frontiers supports more efficient and transparent open access operations. As open access publishing expands, institutions encounter fragmented workflows and inconsistent reporting requirements, while OA Switchboard provides a neutral and interoperable infrastructure that connects systems across publishers, libraries, institutions, and funders.

The integration introduces automated, standardized metadata exchange among stakeholders, reduces reliance on manual processing and email-based administration, enables faster verification of open access eligibility and entitlements, improves reporting accuracy and compliance tracking, and enhances support for funder mandates.

For libraries and research institutions, the integration provides clearer oversight of open access agreements, reduces administrative workload, and enables more consistent workflows, while also contributing to the development of seamless, scalable infrastructure for the open access ecosystem. OA Switchboard connectivity is available through Frontiers’ Institutional Partnerships program.
