'Future Medicinal Chemistry' publishes special focus issues on targeted oncology -

Future Medicinal Chemistry, a journal published by Future Science Ltd., UK, has published a two-part special focus on ‘Targeted oncology’ guest edited by the journal’s UK Senior Editor, Prof. David Thurston (King’s College London).

With many more cancers becoming resistant to current therapies, there is an ever greater need for more specific and effective anti-tumour drugs, it is observed. The special focus covers current themes and significant advances in the design, preparation and evaluation of targeted anti-cancer therapies, including small molecules, macromolecules and antibody–drug conjugates, as well as target identification.

Leaders in the field from both industry and academia have contributed to the issue, which includes editorials, commentaries and reviews. Topics include epigenetic therapies, carbohydrate-based anti-cancer vaccines and tumour-targeting drug-delivery systems. The issues also feature perspectives from those based in industry on targeted oncology drug development. Gilles Gallant (Human Genome Sciences) discusses whether or not Big Pharma is doing enough to drive innovation in the field, and Margaret Lee (Zalicus, Inc.) describes the advantages of both monotherapy and combination therapy and how more should be done to advance the screening of combination strategies.

The articles can be accessed from the Future Medicinal Chemistry website: Part I – http://www.future-science.com/toc/fmc/4/1 and Part II – http://www.future-science.com/toc/fmc/4/4

Future Medicinal Chemistry seeks to provide a monthly platform (18 issues annually) for reviews and original research for the ever-expanding and diversifying pharmaceutical chemistry community, by showcasing milestones in R&D and featuring expert analysis of emerging developments. The journal is supported by an international editorial board headed by Prof. Iwao Ojima (State University of New York at Stony Brook) and Prof. David Thurston (King’s College London). The journal is indexed by Medline/Pubmed, ISI and other major services.
