US-based Gale, the educational resources arm of Cengage Learning (formerly Thomson Learning), has announced that three of its titles were named as Best Reference for 2007 by Library Journal. The titles include Encyclopedia Judaica, Encyclopedia of Sex and Gender and Encyclopedia of Diets.
Encyclopedia Judaica, which won the Dartmouth Medal last year, is a reference work on Judaism. The second edition of this encyclopedia, which was released in 2007, incorporates information on more than three decades of changes and the latest scholarship. Encyclopedia of Sex and Gender is a reference encompassing the various concepts of sex and gender that have arisen from the critical study of those subjects worldwide. It also covers the emerging re-imagination of the more traditional humanities and social sciences.
Encyclopedia of Diets examines in two volumes diets and topics, including: a gluten-free or high-protein diet; dieting and popular weight-loss programmes such as the Atkins Diet; dietary concerns; nutritional basics; and effects of one's dietary choices on one's health. The resource seeks to present an overview of all topics in a standardized, balanced format.
