The 16th George Washington (GW) Ethics in Publishing Conference will take place on October 22, 2026, with a possible second half-day session on October 23, 2026. The event will be held in a hybrid format, with in-person participation at the George Washington University Arlington Education Center in Arlington, Virginia, and virtual attendance.
The theme of the conference is “Integrity by Design.” The event will bring together professionals, researchers, students, and others involved in publishing and scholarly communication.
A call for presentations has been issued, with a submission deadline of May 1, 2026. Proposals are invited from publishing and library professionals, scholars, faculty, students, and others with an interest in ethics in publishing. Presenters may participate either in person or virtually.
Topics include peer review practices, research integrity, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in publishing, multilingual publishing, environmental sustainability, and the use of artificial intelligence in publishing workflows. Additional areas include metadata practices, author outreach and education, and representation in editorial roles.
The conference will include invited speakers, panel discussions, and short presentations ranging from 15 to 40 minutes. A previous edition included 54 professionals across 26 sessions and nearly 700 attendees. The event is organized by the Graduate Program in Publishing at the College of Professional Studies, George Washington University.
