Geospatial Today, a geospatial technology magazine brought out by publisher Spatial Networks Pvt. Ltd., India, has announced the release of the Indian Geospatial Industry Survey 2008 Report. The journal also gave out the Indian Geospatial Awards 2008 to recognise and reward the companies and people who have achieved high standards in the geospatial industry and are driving others forward. The events were followed by Geospatial Round Table discussion on the theme 'GIS in India - Challenges and Opportunities'.
The Indian Geospatial Industry Survey, in a bid to present facts in a scientific and systematic way, has tied up with market research company IMRB to carry out the survey. The survey is an attempt to gauge the health of the geospatial industry in India. It identifies the basic components of geospatial industry - data, software, hardware and services. The survey analyses the worth of each segment and projects the growth in each.
The winners of the Indian Geospatial Awards for 2008 were: Lifetime Achievement Award - Surveying -Gen. GC Agarwal, Retired Surveyor General of India; Lifetime Achievement Award - Geospatial Technologies - Dr. George Joseph, Director CSSTEA; Geospatial Company of the Year - Speck Systems; Geospatial Entrepreneur of the Year - Rajendra S. Pawar, Chairman, NIIT; Geospatial State of the Year - Delhi; Geospatial Solution of the Year - Tsunami Early Warning System, INCOIS; Geospatial Product of the Year - MaymyIndia Navigator, CE Infosystems; Geospatial Leadership Award - Kamal K. Singh, CMD, Rolta India.
To create public awareness about the significance and the potential of geospatial technology, Geospatial Today, along with CNBC TV 18, has initiated the Geospatial Roundtable. The programme sought to bring industry leaders and decision makers in the government on to one platform to explore the opportunities and discuss the growth potential and challenges in the Indian geospatial industry.
