The Global Flourishing Study (GFS) has officially launched the open access availability of its inaugural sample dataset. This milestone marks the commencement of a journey towards unveiling the full dataset in the upcoming months, all facilitated by the esteemed Center for Open Science.
The GFS, an ambitious $43.4 million, five-year initiative, is an extensive examination of 200,000 individuals across 22 countries. Its comprehensive dataset is poised to serve as an invaluable open-access resource for researchers, journalists, policymakers, and educators worldwide. Distinguished by its unprecedented scope and global reach, the GFS endeavors to redefine our understanding of human flourishing.
The release of the sample dataset offers a tantalizing glimpse into a treasure trove of insights that the data is poised to yield in the years to come.
Researchers can avail GFS data through three distinct avenues: Preregistration: Researchers can preregister their analysis plans to secure early access to the comprehensive dataset set to be unveiled in the approaching months at cos.io/gfs; Registered Report: Early access is also granted to those who submit a Registered Report to a journal. This approach ensures transparency by having journals review the preregistration plan and commit to publishing the findings irrespective of the outcome, thus mitigating publication bias; and Public Release: For those seeking data without preregistration, non-sensitive data will be accessible on the first anniversary of each wave's data release. Access to sensitive data necessitates institutional review board approval.
To further delve into the study's implications, interested individuals are encouraged to register for webinars in September. These webinars will provide comprehensive insights into utilizing the sample dataset, the significance of preregistration and Registered Reports, and the procedure for accessing the full dataset upon its release.
