Internet search services provider Google, Inc., US, has stopped digitising old newspapers under its Google News Archive project, according to media reports. In its comment on the move, information technologies provider ProQuest, US, noted that it had been pleased to partner with Google over the past two years in the Google News Archive project - both by contributing its own microfilm assets, as well as facilitating the digitisation of newspaper publishers' microfilm archives.
As a company committed to providing research solutions, ProQuest is willing to work further with publishers to secure and archive their files that Google digitises and indexes. ProQuest is working now with publishers to build more value for their historical content.
The Google News Archive had been an ambitious undertaking; and the company looks forward to expanding its foundation to increase opportunities for researchers and publishers alike, according to ProQuest.
