George Washington University's Master of Professional Studies in Publishing program is organizing the 13th GW Ethics in Publishing Conference, to be held on October 12, 2023, in Arlington, VA. The event will be held as a hybrid event, with both in-person and virtual presentations and attendees.

The conference organizers are now accepting presentation proposals from publishing and library professionals, scholars, faculty, and students. The presentations will include invited speakers, multiple speaker panels, and short presentations. The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2023. The organizers will try to accommodate as many presentations as possible.

The conference will cover a broad range of topics, including salaries, compensation, and openness, sustainability of presses, accessibility, diversity, and inclusion, multilingualism, free speech and censorship, and ethical considerations of AI in publishing, among others. The conference will also feature presentations from alumni and current students in the GW Publishing program who will present their Ethics in Publishing Capstone projects.

The 13th Ethics in Publishing Conference will be sponsored by the Association of University Presses (AUPresses), Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), and Association of American Publishers (AAP). The conference is free of charge, and attendees can register for the conference at a later date.

In conjunction with this year's conference, the GW Journal of Ethics in Publishing has a special call for papers on the topic of university presses. The special issue is open to a wide range of topics on university presses, including but not limited to topics listed above. The deadline for submissions for the Special Issue on University Presses is August 1, 2023.
