HARRASSOWITZ, a full-service subscription agent and bookseller, Germany, has awarded its 2011 Charleston Conference Scholarship to Ariel Vanderpool, Resource Acquisitions Specialist III at Stanford University Lane Medical Library, CA. The scholarship supports attendance at this year’s Charleston Conference, scheduled to be held from November 2-5, 2011, in Charleston, SC.
In line with the 2011 Charleston Conference theme of ‘Something’s Gotta Give!’, applicants were asked to submit a short essay on the topic “What Needs to ‘Give’ for Libraries and Vendors to Flourish”.
The judging panel consisted of Clint Chamberlain, Coordinator for Information Resources, University of Texas at Arlington; Gay Dannelly, Associate Director for Resources and Collection Services, University of Notre Dame; and Tina Feick, HARRASSOWITZ’s Director of Sales and Marketing for North America.
Vanderpool’s winning essay effectively outlined how interaction between libraries and vendors can be facilitated ‘through a sort of personalisation, seen in record keeping, review and analysis of those records, and creative application of that accumulated information to future interactions.’
