Harvard Library and MIT Libraries to co-fund Open Mind journal through 2027 -

The MIT Press has announced that Open Mind, a leading cognitive science journal, will receive co-funding from Harvard Library and MIT Libraries through 2027. This initiative marks Open Mind as the first journal to benefit from the newly established Harvard Open Journals Program, aimed at promoting and sustaining no-fee open access scholarly publishing.

This funding partnership aligns with the shared commitment of the MIT Press, Harvard Library, and MIT Libraries to support scholar-led open access initiatives that eliminate reader and author-facing charges.

Launched in 2017, Open Mind is dedicated to publishing high-quality and innovative research in cognitive science, providing a platform for concise, accessible articles with rapid turnaround times for authors. The journal encompasses a diverse range of content areas within cognitive science, integrating methodologies from cognitive psychology, computer science, mathematical psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology, comparative psychology, behavioral anthropology, decision sciences, and theoretical and experimental linguistics.

Open Mind is jointly edited by Edward Gibson, Professor of Brain & Cognitive Sciences at MIT, and Samuel J. Gershman, Professor of Psychology at Harvard University. Despite being a relatively young journal, Open Mind has established itself as a pioneer in the open access publishing movement. Following funding from MIT Libraries, the journal transitioned to a diamond open access model in 2022, which eliminated all article processing fees, ensuring free access for both authors and readers.

With the continued support of Harvard and MIT, Open Mind aims to enhance its contributions to the cognitive science community and uphold its commitment to open access publishing.
