HathiTrust Research Center opens call for proposals in the advanced collaborative support program -

The HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC) is inviting proposals for its Advanced Collaborative Support (ACS) Program, designed to facilitate collaborative endeavors between researchers and HTRC experts in addressing complex computational analysis challenges related to the HathiTrust corpus.

The initiative is open to new proposals and encourages innovative research contributions utilizing HathiTrust content and/or HTRC tools and services. HTRC, the scholarly service arm, encourages proposals that display a well-crafted research question, identified analysis methods, and a viable completion timeline.

Key Dates and Awards Information: Submission Deadline: November 13, 2023; Award Notification: November 22, 2023; and Project Support Period: December 1, 2023 – July 31, 2024.

Awards under the ACS program are delivered through HTRC staff time and compute resources. Successful proposals will gain access to HTRC specialists across various domains including information science, computer science, cultural analytics, and HathiTrust. The support may encompass project scoping, navigating HTRC tools, dataset creation, and facilitating data access.

An essential component of this support is the encouragement for awardees to engage with their campus library to share project insights within the academic community.

HTRC aims for collaborative projects during the award cycle from December 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024, aligned with specific outcomes set forth in the proposals.

The services provided by HTRC primarily center on analyzing the extensive HathiTrust Digital Library corpus, a compilation of over 18 million volumes from research libraries across North America, Asia, Europe, and Australia. This vast corpus is instrumental in data mining via HTRC services for scholarly research, contributing to a majority of the corpus available for analysis.

The call for proposals necessitates a comprehensive submission, including a project summary, project narrative, and bio-sketches for each team member. Complete proposal elements are to be compiled into a zip file and sent to acs@hathitrust.org before the submission deadline on November 13, 2023.

The review committee, consisting of HTRC and HathiTrust representatives, will evaluate the proposals based on several criteria, including the relevance of the research context, project feasibility, and the impact of the project.

For prospective applicants seeking further details, eligibility clarifications, or specific HTRC support prerequisites, HTRC encourages a prior consultation through email at acs@hathitrust.org.
