Health Information Science and Systems (HISS) has published its inaugural articles with open access publisher BioMed Central. HISS is a multidisciplinary journal that aims to use technologies in computer science to assist in disease diagnoses, treatment, prediction and monitoring through the modelling, design, development, visualisation, integration and management of health related information.
HISS is edited by Yanchun Zhang who highlights in his launch editorial the broad geographical spread of the authors and hence the wide reach the journal hopes to have.
The launch articles include a review of the state-of-the-art techniques that may address the problem of translating the human genomic information into phenotypes that can be used to create personalized treatments. In addition, other articles address topics ranging from systems to display medical images across multiple devices and media, to improving ultrasound images and also a software article describing an iPad interface with the KEGG molecular database.
