Howard Ratner joins CHORUS to guide start-up phase -

The Clearinghouse for the Open Research of the United States (CHORUS) has announced that Howard Ratner has joined CHORUS as Director of Development in its start-up phase to lead the proof of concept - a conceptual design framework - and pilot stages for all stakeholders.

CHORUS is a framework for a possible public-private partnership to increase public access to peer-reviewed publications that report on federally-funded research. It will offer a full suite of services for researchers, federal agencies, institutions, publishers and the public ensuring continued innovation in the delivery of scholarly communication.

Most recently CTO and Executive Vice President, Nature Publishing Group, he was instrumental in the founding of such not-for-profit joint ventures as the Digital Object Identifier, CrossRef and CLOCKSS. Additionally, he co-founded and served as chair of ORCID, the open, community-based initiative providing a registry of researcher identifiers and a means to link research activities and outputs to these identifiers.

Ratner has also been actively involved in the creation of services and technology critical to the development of CHORUS.
