Dr. Ian Young named Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine -

The Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM), formerly AACC, has appointed Dr. Ian Young as editor-in-chief of The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine, effective January 1, 2026.

Dr. Young currently serves as chief scientific advisor for the Department of Health in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and director of research and development for health and social care. He is also a professor of medicine at Queen’s University Belfast and a consultant chemical pathologist at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. With experience as deputy editor and past associate editor of Clinical Chemistry, Dr. Young brings expertise in evaluating clinically relevant laboratory medicine research and a deep understanding of the practical studies showcased in The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine. He has authored more than 450 research papers.

Under Dr. Young’s leadership, ADLM will transition The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine to a Gold Open Access model, making all published content permanently and freely available online. This move aligns with ADLM’s commitment to expanding access to trusted scientific knowledge.

Dr. Young has held leadership roles in laboratory medicine, including past president of the U.K. Association for Laboratory Medicine and chair of the Joint Committee for Traceability in Laboratory Medicine. He holds an MD and a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Queen’s University Belfast.

The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine is an international, peer-reviewed publication from ADLM, featuring applied research and commentary on laboratory medicine.
