IDSA appoints new Journal of Infectious Diseases Editors -

The Infectious Diseases Society of America has appointed the incoming editorial board of The Journal of Infectious Diseases. The new editors have been training over the last several months and officially began their terms on January 1.

As previously announced, Dr. Cynthia L. Sears, is the new editor-in-chief of JID.

Dr. Sears is a professor of medicine and oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a professor of molecular microbiology and immunology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is the microbiome program leader of the Bloomberg~Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at Johns Hopkins and director of the Johns Hopkins Germ-free Murine Facility. She previously served as an associate editor of IDSA’s journal Clinical Infectious Diseases (2000-2016) and served IDSA as president from 2018-2019.

Dr. Sears’ editorial board was recruited with significant attention to IDSA’s values of diversity, inclusion, access and equity. For the first time, all three IDSA journals conducted an open call for associate editor applications, with special attention to encouraging members of underrepresented groups to apply.

Dr. Sears will be joined on the editorial board by a diverse group of infectious diseases experts, including two deputy editors, Dr.Jonthan Z. Li, of Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School; Dr. Upinder Singh, , Stanford University School of Medicine; and 12 associate editors are: Dr. David Andes, , University of Wisconsin; Dr. Ann Arvin, , Stanford University School of Medicine; Dr. Cornelius J. (Neil) Clancy, , University of Pittsburgh and VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System; Dr. Sara Gianella Weibel, University of California San Diego; Dr. Eric Houpt, University of Virginia; Dr. Audrey Odom John, University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; Dr. Daniel T. Leung, University of Utah; Dr. Igho Ofotokun, Emory University School of Medicine and Emory University Rollins School of Public Health; Dr. Roger Paredes, Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol; Dr. Irini Sereti, U.S. National Institutes of Health; Dr. Jessica Snowden, , University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences; and Dr. Jeffrey A. Tornheim, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Baltimore City Health Department.
