IEEE Intellectual Property Rights Office launches e-copyright tools for publication editors -

The IEEE Intellectual Property Rights Office has made available two new electronic copyright form (eCF) tools for volunteers who are responsible for collecting, submitting and monitoring IEEE Copyright Forms.

To help volunteers track eCF submissions, the IPR Office and the IEEE Publishing Technology Group have developed the eCF Report Tool. This tool generates a downloadable Excel spreadsheet report showing the status of the eCFs submitted (and not yet submitted) to their specific publication title. More than 100K IEEE Copyright Forms were signed and submitted through the online tool in 2008.

The second, the eCF Upload Tool, will provide editors whose publications are not using a manuscript submission system with a simple process to enter metadata on all currently submitted manuscripts into the eCF system. Authors will then receive an e-mail with a user ID and password, as well as clear instructions on accessing the eCF to transfer their copyright to IEEE.
