Illinois Wesleyan, Marquette universities opt for Digital Commons solution -

Publisher Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress), US, has announced that the libraries of Illinois Wesleyan University and Marquette University (WI) have signed contracts to use bepress' document repository software, Digital Commons. Also, both institutions are implementing bepress's SelectedWorks, a platform for building individual faculty pages.

SelectedWorks and Digital Commons are integrated, enabling migration of authors' works from the faculty page to the repository. The universities chose Digital Commons for its functionality; services such as mail lists, e-journal publication modules, alerting services, data feeds and conference management workflows; and customer service. The service is seen to allow the universities to include the works of alumni as well as current students.

Founded by academics in 1999, bepress is both a publisher of peer-reviewed e-journals and a software developer, having created a variety of tools to facilitate open access publication. The bepress Institutional Repository platform currently powers the eScholarship Repository of the University of California system as well as over 50 schools using Digital Commons.
