Indian govt. body to link private universities to library network -

The Indian government's University Grants Commission (UGC) has reportedly chalked out a plan to facilitate research activities in more than 200 private universities across the country. The UGC will be providing access to nearly 23 leading research e-journals via its inter-university centre - the Information and Library Network (Inflibnet).

The Inflibnet is currently in talks with the research e-journal publishers including - Blackwell, Oxford University Publication, American Chemical Society, Institute of Physics Journal and American Institute of Physics - to provide services to these universities at a subsidised rate. The services include accessing contents of about 5,000 research journals and helping academicians and research scholars publish research papers in these journals.

Presently, Inflibnet provides e-journal subscription to 149 universities, funded by the UGC. According to Inflibnet officials, the overall academic research activities in the country is expected to go further up with private universities and institutes joining the assortment of journals from the next academic year.
