Ingram Content Group’s e-textbook platform Vital Source has announced its conformance certification for IMS Global Learning Consortium’s Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) v1.1 with learning outcomes, a widely-used global technical standard for educational applications.
LTI provides a common way to plug applications into learning management software and learning platforms. The LTI standard, and VitalSource’s achievement of LTI v1.1 certification, has simplified the way that learning management systems interact with the e-textbook platform. Using LTI standards, more institutions can easily integrate the VitalSource platform into their curriculums.
LTI standards replace custom API’s (application programming interfaces) required for each platform, reducing the number of custom integrations required for developers, learning platforms and IT support staff. LTI provides a quick and secure way to integrate innovative content and learning applications for seamless access by students and teachers. The comprehensive standards handle launching, single sign-on authorisation and provides VitalSource with comprehensive outcome support tools to help feed valuable and relevant data back to institutions from the newest generation of interactive books.
Vital Source, a member of IMS, has an active role in the development of tools to improve educational participation and attainment. With more than 2 million users, VitalSource claims to be the most used e-textbook platform in education. With a presence on more than 6,000 campuses in 180 countries, educators and students have access to tens of thousands of titles from the world’s leading textbook publishers.
