IntechOpen has joined the United Nations SDG Publishers Compact as part of its ongoing commitment to increase awareness, publish and promote scientific research in support of the global SDG programme.
In the words of the UNDP, the 17 SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
The compact calls attention to 10 action points that members can commit to with the aspiration to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs by 2030, by acting as champions of the SDGs and by publishing books and journals that will help inform, develop and inspire action in that direction.
To strengthen its commitments, IntechOpen is launching a new Open Access Book Series on Sustainable Development, planned for the beginning of 2022. The Series will feature a topics structure allowing to present five most relevant sub-disciplines that group the 17 SDGs - Sustainable Economy and Fair Society; Health and Wellbeing; Inclusivity and Social Equity; Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability; and Urban Planning and Environmental Management.
Through the Series and its continuous Edited Volumes publishing programme, together with new and upcoming projects dedicated to sustainable technology topics, IntechOpen aims at contributing to the initiative through the active promotion, acquisition and publication of content that advocates for themes represented by the SDGs.
In addition, IntechOpen will be also acting by raising awareness and promoting the SDGs and taking action through company projects on sustainable development issues and company-wide commitments that support the Global Goals. The initiatives will be further promoted through an external and internal education and a communication program aimed at accelerating progress to achieve the Goals.
