IOP Publishing has entered into a three-year open access agreement with Couperin, the French national consortium of higher education and research institutions. The arrangement adopts a 'read and publish' model and enables affiliated researchers from participating institutions to publish an unlimited number of articles open access across IOP Publishing’s journal portfolio.
Couperin consists of 306 member institutions, including 106 universities. Of these, 28 institutions are expected to participate in the agreement, which spans subject areas aligned with IOP Publishing’s journals. The agreement is designed to support the broader transition to open science within Europe by facilitating greater dissemination and accessibility of peer-reviewed research outputs originating from French academic and research institutions.
This development marks IOP Publishing’s first open access partnership in France, a region where the organization has maintained significant publishing activity but had not previously established an open access framework.
The agreement builds on a longstanding relationship between IOP Publishing and the French academic community and adds to the publisher’s expanding network of transformative agreements, which currently includes over 1,000 institutions in 40 countries.
These agreements are structured to promote open access publishing without imposing article processing charges directly on authors, thereby supporting global efforts toward equitable access to scholarly communication.
