Effective January 2024, all articles featured in APEX, the premier platform for swift dissemination of breakthroughs in applied physics, will be readily accessible to readers worldwide, without any access restrictions. This transformation mirrors the growing demand for greater accessibility in scientific research and aligns with funders' mandates that require authors to publish their work exclusively in OA journals.
The decision to make APEX open access is set to empower authors to communicate their discoveries to a broader global audience, thereby amplifying the influence and reach of physics research. IOPP's user data underscores the advantages of OA publishing, revealing that OA content garners an 80% higher download rate and a 30% increase in citations compared to content hidden behind paywalls.
In a collaborative spirit, IOPP and JSAP champion equitable opportunities for all to contribute to the field of physical science and are dedicated to ensuring that the transition to OA is all-encompassing. IOP Publishing has pledged its support to researchers residing in low-income and lower-middle-income countries by covering their article publication charges (APCs), with eligible authors benefiting from automatic waivers.
Furthermore, all JSAP official members will enjoy a 20% discount on APCs, further easing the path to OA publication.
