As part of Peer Review Week, IOP Publishing is launching a reviewer survey to better understand the experience of refereeing an article and to provide an evidential basis for the further development of their referee services. Developments in scientific publishing can often focus on the experience of the authors and the readers of articles. However, the researchers who act as referees for scientific papers are the foundation on which the peer review process is built.
The survey has been designed to obtain objective and truly candid feedback from researchers who have first-hand experience of refereeing for their journals. The results of this survey will form the basis of a data-led approach to improve the experience of reviewing articles for IOP Publishing journals. Unlike some other reviewer surveys, this will not be a one off but will be followed up with a mechanism for reviewers to continual feedback on the service provided.
This feedback will be used to shape all aspects of the reviewer experience from developing new training materials for referees to informing their approach to referee recognition.
