IOP Publishing is celebrating 50 years of its Journal of Physics series. The Journal of Physics (JPhys) series encompasses five core physics journals, a conference series and a new open access journal covering all of physics. In celebration of this anniversary, IOP Publishing has commissioned a selection of viewpoints looking back over the 50 years of the JPhys series to highlight a selection of important papers published by the journals.
The origins of the JPhys series can be traced back to the journal Proceedings of the Physical Society, which commenced publication in 1874, with the series expanding and adapting to cover new fields and the needs of the scientific community.
Now in its 50th year, the series has established itself as an authoritative and internationally recognised journal series in physics, with a considerable legacy.
The JPhys series now consists of: Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical, Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics, Journal of Physics: Conference Series, and Journal of Physics Communications.
