IOP Publishing has expanded article publication charge discounts and waivers for open access journals across 122 economies -

IOP Publishing (IOPP) has expanded its article publication charge (APC) discount and waiver program to increase participation in open access (OA) publishing among authors globally. The expanded policy applies to IOPP’s proprietary portfolio of open access and hybrid academic journals.

Under the updated structure, authors located in 122 economies may qualify for APC financial support through a three-tier discount framework. The structure includes a 100% APC waiver for authors from eligible low-income economies. Authors located in eligible lower-middle-income economies may receive a 70% APC discount.

Authors from eligible upper-middle-income economies may receive a 30% APC discount, introduced for the first time within the program. The publisher states that discounts and waivers will be applied automatically when all authors listed on a submitted manuscript are affiliated with institutions in qualifying countries.

If the corresponding author and the majority of co-authors meet the eligibility requirements, authors may request financial support during manuscript submission. This process allows research teams working across multiple institutions and geographic locations to qualify for APC support.
