IOP Publishing has announced the launch of a new open access journal, Environmental Research: Energy (EREN), in response to the growing demand for sustainable energy research. The new journal will focus on clean and sustainable energy and will be aligned with several of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Environmental Research: Energy will join IOP Publishing's expanding Environmental Research series of open access journals.
The launch of Environmental Research: Energy comes at a time when research output on renewable energy and sustainability has seen a 600% increase compared to a decade ago. The new journal will share the same high levels of author service, inclusive editorial policies, and strict quality assurance as Environmental Research Letters (ERL).
The new journal will be multidisciplinary in nature, and its content will appeal to researchers in science, economics, engineering, and social science who are working on discoveries and sustainable solutions in energy consumption and supply. Environmental Research: Energy will begin accepting submissions later in 2023.
The journal will encourage transparency and reproducibility, with authors urged to share data and code where possible. Authors can also opt to have their papers undergo double anonymous and transparent peer review. All OA article publication charges will be waived for articles submitted before 2025.
Emily Grubert, Professor at the University of Notre Dame in the USA, has been appointed as the Editor in Chief of Environmental Research: Energy.
