IOP Publishing (IOPP) has announced the recipients of its Outstanding Reviewer Awards for 2024, honoring exceptional contributions to the peer review process. These annual awards acknowledge reviewers whose evaluations have demonstrated excellence, reinforcing the importance of peer review in upholding research quality and integrity.
The award recipients were selected from over 35,000 reviewers who submitted peer review reports for IOPP journals in 2024. The selection process, conducted by IOPP’s journal editors, considered the volume, timeliness, and quality of reviews submitted throughout the year.
IOP Publishing has emphasized that peer review plays a fundamental role in scholarly publishing, ensuring that academic research meets rigorous standards of quality and validity. The organization has expressed appreciation for the contributions of dedicated reviewers, recognizing their role in maintaining the integrity of scientific communication.
As part of its commitment to supporting and rewarding peer reviewers, IOPP offers the Peer Review Excellence certification program, the first free peer review training and certification initiative in the physical sciences. More than 5,000 reviewers have participated in the program, which combines digital and in-person learning with opportunities to review manuscripts under the guidance of experienced editors.
Additionally, over 16,000 reviewers have earned the "IOP Trusted Reviewer" designation, a distinction reserved for the top 15% of reviewers who consistently demonstrate exceptional diligence and expertise in their evaluations.
Through these initiatives, IOP Publishing continues to enhance the peer review process, ensuring that scientific research is rigorously assessed and upheld to the highest standards.
