IOP Publishing releases 2025 Highlights Report showcasing open access growth and research integrity -

IOP Publishing (IOPP) has released 2025 Highlights Report outlining developments during the year related to publishing innovation, openness, and research integrity. The report notes continued growth in Open Access publishing, stating that more than half of research articles published in 2025—51 percent—were released as Open Access.

According to the report, the expansion of Open Access publishing is part of the organization’s effort to improve access to scientific knowledge. The report describes this approach as part of a broader commitment to making research more widely available. Additional highlights reported for 2025 include:

■ 35,674 – total number of articles published in 2025

■ 89 million – total article downloads recorded on the IOPscience platform during the year, including conference series content

■ Over 4,000 – reviewers who received Trusted Reviewer Status in 2025

■ 36 percent – reduction in carbon emissions since 2020

■ 100 percent – of article publication charge income from retracted papers donated to Research4Life

During 2025, IOP Publishing also expanded its journal publishing program by introducing new titles in areas described as rapidly developing research fields. These areas include biomedical sciences, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The statement described the organization as operating as a society publisher with activities intended to serve the research community.
