IOS Press journal, Journal of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine transitions to full open access publication -

The Journal of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine (JPRM), published by IOS Press, has announced that as of January 1, 2023, JPRM transitioned to a full Open Access publication. This means that all articles submitted and accepted after that date are immediately and permanently available upon publication for readers to freely read, download, share, and reuse (with attribution). This enables authors to comply more easily with funder and institutional mandates, for example from the National Institutes of Health.

JPRM is now recognized as the most influential journal in the world devoted to pediatric rehabilitation and developmental medicine throughout the lifespan (children, adolescents, adults). In recent years the number of papers published in JPRM has steadily increased as has the number of articles published as open access. In addition to authors opting to publish without a paywall, many articles have been made openly available as a service to the pediatric rehabilitation community. These include 20 spina bifida guidelines issued by the Spina Bifida Association and a special collection of articles on how COVID-19 is impacting patients. The transition to fully open content will increase the journal’s impact and benefit the entire community, including authors, readers, libraries, hospitals, funding agencies – and ultimately patients.

The associated Open Access fee has been set to be extremely competitive. The fee will not apply to certain publication types, like invited articles, editorials, and commentaries. Fees may be waived under certain circumstances, particularly from authors located in low-income countries upon application from the authors.
