IPA statement calls for better cooperation among governments when managing digital migration -

The International Publishers Association (IPA) officially adopted a statement, asking governments for better cooperation when managing the digital migration in education, at the recently concluded Frankfurt Book Fair. The policy statement seeks to outline the unique role that independent, competitive and entrepreneurial publishers play in improving education results, including in the digital environment.

Digital Migration has become a central issue for educational publishers around the world. According to Jens Bammel, IPA Secretary General, this statement is an important reminder why education needs publishers, and that digital migration can only lead to improvements in learning outcomes, if all stakeholders work together.

The statement draws on the experience of educational publishers around the world. In particular when schools introduce costly new digital technologies policy makers often overlook the importance of diverse quality educational content to make best use of new equipment. The statement makes a number of specific demands to policy makers to ensure that typical mistakes during the period of digital migration are avoided.
