The Irish Research e-Library (IReL) has announced the extension of its partnership with OpenAIRE to further develop and implement the National Open Access Monitor. Originally set to conclude in June 2024, the agreement has been extended by ten months, through April 2025.
Launched in March 2024 as a collaborative effort between the National Open Research Forum (NORF), IReL, and OpenAIRE, the National Open Access Monitor serves as a key pillar in Ireland’s journey toward a fully open access research ecosystem. Since its pilot launch, IReL and OpenAIRE have engaged researchers and stakeholders by sharing educational materials and hosting support events to encourage adoption and effective use of the platform.
To enhance engagement with Ireland’s research community, IReL and OpenAIRE have planned a series of online events in the coming months. These sessions aim to provide additional support and foster greater understanding of the Monitor’s functionalities, ensuring that users maximize its potential in advancing open access practices.
The partnership underscores Ireland’s dedication to creating a more transparent and accessible research environment, aligning with global trends toward open science and equitable access to knowledge.
