Ireland’s IReL has enabled the open access publication of more than 10,000 research articles, marking a significant milestone in advancing open scholarship.
According to data contributed to OpenAPC, 10,382 articles have been supported under agreements negotiated with 69 academic publishers. The Higher Education Authority and the Department for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science fund these efforts.
The initiative reflects Ireland’s broader commitment to transparency, accessibility, and equity in academic publishing. It also contributes to the NORF Action Plan goal of ensuring that all Irish research outputs are made openly available by 2030.
