The International Society of Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE) has announced its inaugural conferences on editorial office best practice. The meetings will take place on February 27, 2008 in London, and March 18-19, 2008 in Baltimore, US. Managing editors; editorial administrators; editors-in-chief who perform administrative duties; publishers; and journal owners will benefit from these conferences.
Intended to meet a growing demand for professional development, these conferences will facilitate discussion on effective operational strategies; establish a context for the demands currently placed on offices and their staff; and identify future roles and responsibilities. The meetings offer a rare opportunity for editorial office staff and others interested in manuscript submission and peer review management to come together to share experiences, concerns, creative solutions and tips and tricks. Attendees will experience a unique chance to shape debate on operational strategies as well as take home key tools to assess performance.
Both meetings will feature a keynote address from an industry leader on the evolving role of editorial offices, author/reader expectations, and emerging trends/policies in journal publishing. In break-out sessions participants will discuss key issues in the life of a manuscript, share experiences, and propose solutions as part of a debate on effective management.
