Ivan Lee appointed Editor-in-Chief of IEEE EMBC Proceedings -

Sunghoon “Ivan” Lee, associate professor of computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and biomedical engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, has been named Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Conference (EMBC) Proceedings.

The publication is the official record of the world’s largest biomedical engineering conference, which reviews nearly 3,000 research papers annually.

In his new role, Lee will oversee the peer review and selection process, maintain scientific rigor, and highlight emerging areas such as the use of artificial intelligence in biomedical engineering. Plans under his leadership include introducing “Best Paper” and “Best Reviewer” awards and expanding participation in peer review to include early-career researchers and doctoral students.

Lee has served on the EMBC editorial team since 2021 and is recognized internationally for his work on wearable biomedical sensors and systems. His appointment is expected to strengthen the Proceedings’ impact and advance the mission of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS).
