JMIR Publications, a leading open access publisher, in partnership with Sweden's academic consortium Bibsam, has announced a groundbreaking national agreement to eliminate article processing charges (APCs) for researchers in Sweden. This transformative arrangement, supported by sales partner Accucoms, will enable researchers at Bibsam’s 95 participating institutions to publish an unlimited number of open access articles in any JMIR Publications journals at no cost to themselves.
The initiative is funded by Sweden’s national research funders—Swedish Research Council, Formas, Forte, and Vinnova—highlighting their strong commitment to promoting open access to scientific research. This collaborative effort aims to remove financial barriers for researchers, thereby encouraging greater dissemination and accessibility of scientific knowledge.
Effective through the end of 2025, this partnership signifies a major advancement in open access publishing and the principles of open science. By eliminating APCs for eligible authors, the agreement supports the global push towards more transparent and equitable access to scientific research.
Researchers at participating institutions, which include universities, public agencies, and research institutes, will now have the opportunity to publish their work openly without incurring publication costs. This not only benefits individual researchers but also enhances the visibility and impact of Swedish research on the global stage.
