Dr. Arriel Benis named new Editor-in-Chief of JMIR Medical Informatics -

JMIR Publications has appointed Dr Arriel Benis as the new editor-in-chief of JMIR Medical Informatics, effective February 5, 2025. Dr Benis replaces Dr Christian Lovis, the outgoing editor-in-chief.

Dr Benis is an associate professor in Medical Informatics and Health Data Science at Holon Institute of Technology (HIT), Israel, where he heads the Department of Digital Medical Technologies and the “Management of Information and Technologies for Health Systems” track of the MSc in Technology Management program. Dr Benis earned a PhD in medical informatics and artificial intelligence (AI) and an MSc in medical informatics and communication technologies. His background spans computer and information science, engineering, biomedical sciences, and innovation management.

Dr Benis has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers in medical informatics and public health. Dr Benis champions international academic collaboration in the fields of medical informatics, digital health, and applied AI. He holds leadership positions in medical informatics organizations, including the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) and the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), and is a Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics.

Dr Benis’s current research focuses on using data-driven AI and decision-support systems in health informatics. His work focuses on the application of advanced analytics to public health and personalized health care, using machine learning and data mining to improve health care with high-quality data. He is also engaged in the development of integrative solutions to bridge clinical research and translational informatics by applying AI in health care to address global health disparities and promote digital health solutions that consider environmental health.
