Journal of High Energy Physics celebrates 20 years of open access electronic publishing -

The Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP) celebrated its 20th anniversary in July 2017. The open access journal belongs to the international School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste, Italy, and is published by Springer in collaboration with SISSA Medialab srl. JHEP covers world-leading research in high-energy physics, as well as related topics including general relativity, gravitation, and mathematical aspects of quantum field theories.

When JHEP was founded by Daniele Amati and Loriano Bonora in July 1997, the aim was to create a journal which would allow physicists to write, submit, referee and edit papers in an electronic format – a concept that was very new at the time. As a result of this foresight, JHEP soon became one of the most prestigious journals in the field.

Since 2014, the costs of publishing open access in the journal (the article processing charges, APCs) have been completely covered by the Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics (SCOAP3).
