Journal of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, the official publication of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, has published its first articles following transfer to open access publisher BioMed Central.
The journal publishes original research, reviews, commentaries and short reports on all aspects and sub-specialties of otolaryngology-head & neck surgery, including, for example, paediatric and geriatric otolaryngology, otology/neurotology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
As well as research, the journal is also keen to publish 'How I do it' articles describing physicians' preferred techniques which may either be completely new, a better version or the unique management of an existing method, or challenging problem, whether medical or diagnostic.
The journal is edited by Dr Hadi Seikaly and Dr Erin Wright from University of Alberta, Canada. The Editors-in-Chief describe the evolution of the journal in their Editorial; initially launched as a small national society journal in 1971, to an international print subscription journal in 2008 and now in 2013, a fully online, open access journal.
