Medical and scientific publisher Karger Publishers has announced the launch of Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases, a new journal in the field of gastroenterology and intestinal pathophysiology that aims to provide a platform for Asian and Western research to further and support communication and the exchange of knowledge. The journal will be officially presented to the scientific community at the Digestive Disease Week in San Diego, May 22–24, 2016.
Inflammatory intestinal diseases, especially inflammatory bowel disease, are increasing in incidence and prevalence in the Western World and even more dramatically in the Asian/Pacific Area. Different inflammatory intestinal diseases (Celiac disease, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, pancreatitis, etc.) frequently share the same pathophysiological mechanisms. The new journal Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases pursues an integrative approach, fostering communication among researchers and clinicians with different specialisations.
Following the motto 'East meets West', Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases features peer-reviewed articles prepared by two authors – one from the East and one from the West. These papers cover genetics, epidemiology, diagnostic methods, and treatment options of inflammatory intestinal diseases and compare the relevant environmental conditions involved in their pathogenesis.
Initially, the journal features invited high-quality reviews highlighting the most recent developments in the field, with a special focus on those resulting from collaborations between researchers in the Asian/Pacific and Western areas. Special consideration is given to basic pathophysiological mechanisms which are relevant to different inflammatory intestinal diseases.
With Professor Gerhard Rogler of the University Hospital Zurich and Professor Toshifumi Hibi of Kitasato University in Tokyo, two key opinion leaders are figuring as Editors-in-Chief. They have assembled an editorial board of renowned specialists from Asian/Pacific countries as well as North America and Europe. Each issue of Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases will be devoted to a special topic. The first issue, 'Liver and Gut', illustrates overlapping concepts of hepatology and luminal gastroenterology. It is available free at www.karger.com/iid.
The journal will be officially launched at the Digestive Disease Week in San Diego, May 22–24, 2016. Sample issues will be available at Karger Publishers booth #4555.
